Linguistic Field(s): Computational Linguistics; Phonetics; Phonology

Call Deadline: 15-Nov-2012

Meeting Description:

This workshop is second in series to the 1st Workshop on Tone and Intonation (WTI1) that was held between 26 and 27 January 2012 at the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati. This year the focus of the workshop is on developing linguistic and computational models of tone and intonation that can be evaluated against large-scale data. To that end, the emphasis for this workshop is on building a collaborative environment for linguists, speech scientists and technologists. The workshop will consist of invited talks by experts from fields of linguistics, speech sciences, and signal processing. The primary goal of the workshop is to facilitate interdisciplinary research between these related fields and also to provide direction to students and scholars working in the fields of tone and intonation.

Call for Papers:

We invite papers that deal with the following topics for 20 minute presentations

Phonetics and phonology of tone and intonation
Engineering approaches to understanding tone and intonation
Signal analysis methods for tone and intonational processing
Stochastic and mathematical modeling of tonal contrasts and intonational patterns
Tonogenesis
Abstract representational models of prosody
Perception of tones

Each author can submit one single-authored and one joint-authored abstract. Abstracts should describe original research that has not been presented earlier in any other venue. Papers dealing with tonal and intonational patterns of Indian languages will be given a preference. All abstracts must be submitted in English and should adhere strictly to a one-page, single-spaced, 12 points format. Abstracts should be anonymous and should be in either .doc, .pdf, .txt, or .odt format.
