Meeting Description:

The University of Texas at Arlington Student Conference in Linguistics & TESOL is a student-led conference specifically designed to give graduate and undergraduate students a chance to present their original research. This is a great opportunity to join students from across America and around the world to present research on language.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. Robert Fiorentino. Dr. Fiorentino received his PhD in linguistics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006, and is currently associate professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Kansas.  His research involves both psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics, and he has used techniques such as MEG, EEG, and fMRI in his work. The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is located in Arlington, Texas, situated between Dallas and Fort Worth. Arlington is easily accessible by two major airports: DFW and Love Field. Discounted hotels in Arlington will be available for the conference, and some limited space will be available to stay with students on a first come, first served basis. 

Call for Papers:

Papers for this conference are invited in all areas of linguistics and TESOL. Students from any educational institution are strongly encouraged to submit their research and share their discoveries in the field. Presenters can choose between oral and poster presentations. Oral presentations will last 20 minutes with 5 minutes for discussion and questions. An allotment of time will be set aside for poster presentations and discussion. Poster and oral presentations are considered, accepted, and judged as equal counterparts, and the best presentations will be awarded the Yumi Nakamura Memorial Prize in Linguistics.

Abstract Requirements and Details:

The deadline for submission is Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Notification of acceptance will be distributed in December, 2012. Abstracts should be a single page of 500 words in at least 12 point font, with one additional page allowed for graphs and/or references. Electronic submissions are required and should be uploaded to http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/utascilt2013.

Please submit abstracts in .doc format so that we can easily format them for inclusion in the abstract booklet. If your abstract includes fonts, symbols, or graphics that are unusual, please submit both MS Word and PDF formats, and we will make sure the correct symbols appear. Late submissions will not be accepted.
