Description:

The Institute for Natural Language Processing (IMS) at the University of
Stuttgart is seeking to fill the Professorship of Theoretical Computational
Linguistics (W3) starting in the summer semester 2013.

The successful candidate will be committed to representing the discipline
in research and teaching and will contribute to the BSc program
'Maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung' (Natural Language Processing), the MSc
program 'Computational Linguistics' and to other programs at the Faculty of
Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, with
teaching both in German and in English.

The candidates should have research foci within the following main areas:
Mathematical properties and algorithmic implementation of linguistic
formalisms and learning techniques from the fields of Syntax, Semantics,
Phonology and Morphology; statistical methods in Natural Language
Processing. An interest in the combination of symbolic and statistical
techniques is desirable.

The research profile of the candidate should fit into the interdisciplinary
nature of the Institute for Natural Language Processing in Stuttgart
(http://www.ims.uni-stuttgart.de/). The candidate is expected to engage in
collaborations within the Faculty, and with the Linguistics Department, in
particular as part of the Collaborative Research Project 'Incremental
Specification in Context' (Sonderforschungsbereich 732). Experience in
obtaining third-party funding and an international profile is desirable.

The requirements for employment listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Württemberg
university law apply.
