Description:

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures invites applications for
a Professor of Practice position in Spanish at the rank of Assistant
Professor to begin August 2013. A Ph.D. in Spanish is required and
candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand by August 2013. The position
requires that the candidate have expertise in pedagogy or second language
acquisition. This is a non-tenure leading position, but comes with other
faculty rights and benefits. Professors of Practice hold longer-term
renewable contract appointments, with primary responsibility in
instructional activities. Thus, candidates must show evidence of excellence
in teaching and near native fluency in Spanish and English.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in
introductory and intermediate Spanish; to supervise and mentor graduate
students and lecturers teaching in the beginning language sequence; to
develop and choose materials that contribute to a successful basic language
program. The candidate must have experience with instructional technology
and will be responsible for developing on-line and hybrid language courses.
