The Faculty of Arts/Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (Porto, Portugal) will host the 3rd European Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists on the theme of Forensic Linguistics: Bridging the Gap(s) between Language and the Law. The conference, which is organised jointly by the two Faculties, aims to bridge the gap(s) between language and the law by sharing the latest research in the field of forensic linguistics/language and the law, and will be held from 15 to 18 October 2012.

Registration is now open for the 3rd European Conference of the International Association of Forensic Linguists on the theme of Forensic Linguistics: Bridging the Gap(s) between Language and the Law. The conference, which is organised jointly by the Faculty of Arts and the Faculty of Law of the University of Porto (Porto, Portugal), aims to bridge the gap(s) between language and the law by sharing the latest research in the field of forensic linguistics/language and the law, and will be held from 15 to 18 October 2012.

Early bird registration deadline: 15 September 2012.

Official language:

The official language of the 3rd European Conference of the IAFL on Forensic Linguistics / Language and the Law is English, with the exception of the special track on Portuguese Forensic Linguistics (in Portuguese).

Round-tables:

(1) Special session on Forensic Linguistics in Portuguese-speaking countries (Official language: Portuguese).

(2) Special session to discuss Directive 2010/64/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 October 2010 on the right to interpreting and translation in criminal proceedings.

Post-conference workshops:

Two post-conference workshops will be organised on 19 October, with special rates for conference participants. Attendance to these workshops is limited to 30 participants.
