New Directions in Lexical Semantics and Discourse Organization (version française ci-dessous) 

The Franco-German research teams operating under the umbrella of the EMOLEX ANR-DFG project are hosting an international conference - New Directions in Lexical Semantics and Discourse Organization - February 6-8, 2013, at the Institute of English and American Studies in Osnabrück, Germany. The conference aims to foster discussion on new ways of bringing together studies on lexical semantics and discourse organization, with a particular focus on the vocabulary of emotion (affect in language, feelings, attitudes, intentionality).

Nouvelles Perspectives en Sémantique Lexicale et en Organisation du Discours

Les équipes du projet ANR-DFG Emolex - le Laboratoire Lidilem de l'Université Stendhal (Grenoble III), l'Institut de Philologie Romane de l'Université de Cologne et l'Institut de Philologie Anglaise de l'Université d'Osnabrück - organisent un colloque dont l'objectif est de lancer une discussion sur de nouvelles pistes permettant de relier sémantique lexicale et organisation du discours. Ce sujet peut être abordé notamment à partir du champ du vocabulaire psychique (linguistique de l'affectivité, sensations, attitudes, intentionnalité).

Final Call for Papers:

Extended deadline for submission: September 30, 2012

There will be three thematic strands:

1. Collocation/Colligation and Discourse Organization: Interlingual and Intralingual Aspects
2. New Approaches in Corpus Linguistics
3. New Perspectives for Lexicography and Language Teaching

In line with these three themes, the organizers invite three types of proposals:

a) Studies which explore the collocational and colligational behaviour of nouns, verbs and adjectives (preferably emotion words such as anger, surprise, contemptuous) and/or discuss new approaches to contrastive lexico-grammatical analysis. The idea is to extend studies of collocation and colligation to include the text level (i.e. the role words play in structuring scenarios, argumentation, etc.)
b) Corpus-based statistical studies
c) Studies using the results of (contrastive) lexico-grammatical and/or discourse analysis to guide improvement in lexicography and language teaching

The languages of the conference are English and French. Contingent upon review and acceptance by the academic committee, selected papers from the conference will be published in book form or as a special issue of a journal.

Abstracts should be no more than a single page in length, including the bibliography. Send abstract submissions via email to colloque at emolex.eu. Abstracts should be submitted in two versions. One version should contain author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), and email contacts. The second version should be fully anonymized.

Extension de la date limite de l'envoi de propositions : 30 septembre 2012

Le colloque comprendra trois volets thématiques :

- Combinatoire lexico-syntaxique et organisation du discours : (aspects inter-et intralinguistiques)
- Nouvelles approches en linguistique de corpus
- Perspectives lexicographiques et didactiques

Il s'agit d'abord de présenter des travaux sur le comportement combinatoire (lexématique et syntaxique) de noms, verbes et adjectifs appartenant de préférence au champ affectif (p. ex. colère, s'étonner, dédaigneux) et/ou de réfléchir à de nouvelles approches concernant les aspects interlinguistiques de cette combinatoire. La description du rôle discursif des lexies (leurs tâches dans la structuration des textes, leur appartenance à des scénarios, des schemas argumentatifs, etc.) vise à élargir l'analyse de la combinatoire vers le niveau textuel. En matière de linguistique de corpus ensuite, ces études peuvent se fonder sur les opérations statistiques dans le but de dégager la combinatoire des lexies. Enfin, des perspectives innovantes dans l'exploitation didactique et lexicographique de la combinatoire et/ou de l'analyse discursive feront l'objet de discussions dans le cadre du dernier volet thématique.

Les langues officielles du colloque sont le français et l'anglais. Une série d'articles sélectionnés par le comité scientifique sera publiée sous forme imprimée (numéro spécial de revue ou ouvrage). Les propositions de communications (1 page maximum, références comprises) en anglais ou en français sont à envoyer à l'adresse suivante : colloque at emolex.eu. Les propositions doivent être remises en deux versions, l'une contenant les coordonnées du participant et l'autre étant complètement anonymisée.
