2nd Call for Papers:

We invite submission for papers in all areas of language research related to any aspect of Spanish in the United States or Spanish in Contact with Other Languages including but not limited to the following: bilingualism, educational policies and practices, formal aspects of US Spanish, heritage language learning and teaching, language and identity, language and the law, language change, language contact, language ideologies, language in politics and politics of language, language maintenance, language planning, language policy, language rights, linguistic variation, mass media and Spanish, Spanish in the professions, and Spanish and the economy. Multidisciplinary, multimethods, and collaborative cutting-edge scholarship is welcome.

Abstracts not exceeding 300 words (excluding title and references) should be submitted electronically no later than October 19, 2012. Papers will be 20 minutes long followed by a 10 minute question period. Authors may submit a total of two abstracts, one individual and one joint. Submissions for panels will also be accepted. A panel should include a 300 word description and four abstracts related to the panel theme. All submissions will be reviewed anonymously. 

Submission Guidelines:

1. Papers/panels may be delivered in English or Spanish, with papers in Spanish especially encouraged.
2. Abstracts must clearly present a specific thesis statement and include a description of topic, approach, and conclusions. To preserve anonymity during the review process, authors should not include their names or otherwise reveal their identities anywhere in the abstract.
3. Please specify the title of the paper/panel, area of research, name, academic affiliation, and email in the abstract submission.
4. Abstracts must be submitted through EasyAbstracts (EasyAbs):

Se aceptan propuestas para ponencias sobre cualquier área de trabajo sobre el español en los Estados Unidos o el español en contacto con otras lenguas. Las áreas de interés comprenden, entre otras: bilingüismo, prácticas y políticas educativas, aspectos formales del español de Estados Unidos, aprendizaje y enseñanza de lenguas de herencia, lengua e identidad, lengua y legislación, cambio y contacto lingüístico, ideologías lingüísticas, lengua y política y política del lenguaje, mantenimiento lingüístico, política y planificación lingüística, derechos lingüísticos, variación lingüística, medios de comunicación y español, español en ámbitos profesionales y cuestiones económicas relacionadas con la lengua española. Todo trabajo multidisciplinario y de corte colaborativo es bienvenido.

Las ponencias no deberán exceder las 300 palabras (sin incluir el título y la bibliografía) y deberán enviarse de manera electrónica a más tardar el 19 de octubre de 2012. La duración de las ponencias será de 20 minutos, seguidos de 10 minutos de preguntas y respuestas. Los interesados podrán enviar un máximo de dos propuestas, una como autor único y otra en coautoría para su arbitraje anónimo.

Instrucciones para el envío de propuestas:

1. Las ponencias podrán comunicarse en español o inglés, aunque se recomienda el uso del español. 
2. Las ponencias deberán contener una tesis y la clara descripción del tema que se aborda con conclusiones. Para mantener el anonimato, se les pide a los autores que no revelen su identidad en la propuesta misma. 
3. Favor de especificar título del trabajo, área de investigación, nombre, afiliación académica y correo electrónico al someter la propuesta.
