The University of Sydney wishes to appoint a distinguished scholar to the
Sir Warwick Fairfax Chair of Celtic Studies, the first chair of Celtic
studies in Australia which is funded through generous gifts from Lady Mary
Fairfax AM, OBE and the Celtic community.

The successful applicant will be appointed to the Sir Warwick Fairfax Chair
of Celtic Studies located in the School of Letters, Arts and Media. The
school has an outstanding reputation in research and teaching in Celtic
studies, as well as outstanding strengths in old English, old Norse and
medieval studies.

As Chair, you will:
- Lead the Celtic studies program over the next five years, which focuses
on Celtic languages, past and present, and the culture and history of the Celts
- Teach undergraduate students in a broad range of subjects across Celtic
studies
- Supervise postgraduate students in research (including MA and PhD
dissertations)
- Undertake original research in Celtic studies
- Liaise between the University and local Celtic communities.

To be successful you will demonstrate:
- An outstanding research and teaching track record in Celtic studies
- leadership abilities in having led an academic program and/or engaged in
curriculum renewal and reform
- Capacity for outstanding supervision of honours and postgraduate students
- Capacity for working in an interdisciplinary environment and leading
interdisciplinary teams
- A willingness and capacity for public engagement, including working with
the Celtic Studies Foundation at the University as well as other community
organisations committed to Celtic studies around NSW and Australia.

Term:
The successful applicant will be offered a fixed term appointment for a
period of five years. 

Remuneration:
A competitive salary package will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
