Meeting Description:

The third biannual conference on electronic lexicography, eLex 2013, will take place in Tallinn, Estonia.

The previous two eLex conferences have included presentations on many innovative approaches to presenting lexicographic information, however there were, perhaps unavoidably, still discussions on the differences between paper and electronic dictionaries, as well as comparisons of their advantages and disadvantages. Such discussions merely take away the focus from the actual task at hand - to find different ways on how to exploit the rich potential of electronic medium in order to respond (quickly) to the needs of the new types of users, as well as to the needs of modern lexicographers, to forget about conventional approaches and be innovative, to conceptualize the dictionary with an electronic format in mind; in other words, 'to think outside the paper'.

Call for Papers:

The conference aims to explore innovative developments in the field of electronic lexicography. Papers on the following topics are particularly welcome:

- Dictionary content in new media (tablets, mobile devices, etc.)
- Usage practices of the users of electronic dictionaries
- New approaches to dictionary writing (e.g. dictionaries created by users themselves, automatic extraction of dictionary information from the corpus)
- Dictionary writing systems and other software available to the lexicographer
- Integration of NLP tools (grammatical annotation, speech synthesis, etc.)
- Automated customisation of dictionaries to users' needs and characteristics (proficiency level, mother tongue, etc.)
- New reference tools with a dictionary element (e.g. learning tools, writing assistants)
- Exploitation of language resources: monolingual and multilingual corpora, learner corpora, lexical databases (e.g. Wordnet, Framenet, DANTE)
- Integration of electronic dictionaries into language learning and teaching (CALL, translator training, etc.)

Deadline for abstract submission (300-500 words) is 15 December 2012. More information on the submission process is available on the conference website:
