Linguistic Field(s): Linguistic Theories; Syntax

Call Deadline: 20-Apr-2013

Meeting Description:

The 15th Seoul International Conference on Generative Grammar will take place at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea from Wednesday, August 7 through Saturday, August 10 of 2013. The conference will be co-hosted by the Korean Generative Grammar Circle and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The conference will consist of a general session, a workshop, and a series of lectures from the keynote speaker. The theme of the general session is ‘Universals and Parameters’. The confirmed keynote speaker will be Professor David Adger from Queen Mary, University of London, and the theme of his talk is ‘Primitives of Syntactic Structure’.

2nd Call for Papers:

We encourage submissions touching on the theme of the general session. Equal consideration will be given to papers from all areas of generative grammar, which may include syntactic theory, syntax-semantics interface, syntax-morphology interface, syntax-phonology interface, syntax acquisition, and any other syntax-related interests. Applicants for the presentation in the general session must submit the application by April 20, 2013.

The workshop will focus on the syntax-phonology interface. This workshop will bring together researchers of the syntax-phonology interface to discuss ways in which phonology affects syntax and vice versa. Some specific questions include:

(1) What phonological evidence can be provided for the interaction of phonology and syntax?
(2) What phonological properties are associated with the morphosyntactic feature bundles of morphemes? What are the phonological effects of morphosyntactic features such as focus, topic, etc.?
(3) What roles do phonological factors play in determining some aspects of linearization (i.e. surface word order)?
(4) What similarities and differences can be found in various theories of the syntax-phonology interface?

Abstracts should be submitted using the EasyAbs service of The LINGUIST List. All you need to do is visit: http://linguistlist.org/easyabs/SICOGG2013 and follow the online guidelines to upload your abstract. This can either be in .pdf or .doc format. Note that the latter is only acceptable if the abstract contains no special fonts. Only electronic submissions through the link above will be considered. Abstracts should be anonymous and may not exceed 2 pages (A4 size), including examples and references (embed examples within the text), with 2.54 cm (1 inch) margin on all four sides and should employ the font Times New Roman 12 pt. Submissions are limited to a maximum of one individual and one joint abstract per author. Abstracts should be sent no later than April 20, 2013. Authors will be notified by May 15, 2013. Each speaker of the general and the workshop sessions will be allotted 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes for discussion. Accepted papers will be published in The Proceedings of 2013 Seoul International Conference on Generative Grammar, which will be distributed to the conference participants. All presenters will be asked to provide camera-ready copies of their papers in publishable form by July 15, 2013. The text should be single-spaced and the general page limit is 20 pages including appendices and references. All the information about the conference is available on our website http://www.kggc.org.
