Description:

A position for a research assistant is available in the research project
Evolution of Semantic Systems, based at the Max Planck Institute for
Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.  This project involves an
international group of researchers who have been carrying out language studies
in communities from Ireland to India. The primary task of the research
assistant in Nijmegen is to check  and validate coding of linguistic data. The
research assistant will also coordinate activities of researchers in the
project, and be responsible for data management. This person should have the
following skills:

Academic:
 - Training in the academic discipline of linguistics is highly desirable
- Ability to understand explicit morphological and semantic criteria used for
coding
 - Willingness to learn to use simple database scripts

Communication:
 - Act as the primary point of contact for queries about the project
 - Have very good English; other languages are also advantageous
 - Communicate with participating researchers by phone and email

Research Management:
 - Carry out administrative tasks regarding collaborators and materials
 - Manage and archive processed data
 - Administration of project website

The ideal research assistant will be careful and attentive to details. S/he
will be able to take initiative in solving problems, to prioritize
effectively, and to work simultaneously on multiple tasks. Technical
assistance and training will be available, and this is an opportunity to work
on an exciting cross-cultural project with a small and enthusiastic team.

The Max Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer. The business of the
institute is conducted in English. This is a full-time position, but we would
also consider part-time employment for the right applicant. The contract will
be for up to one year. Salary will be calculated according to a full-time
monthly rate of €2402 (gross). Closing date for application: 16 May 2013.
Start date: 1 June 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. End of contract: 30
June 2014.
