Abstract:

With over 1,800 annotated maps, the Atlas of German Family Names draws
together for the first time all of the family names that exist in the Federal
Republic of Germany according to their statistical frequency and geographical
distribution. The inclusion of a section on grammar addresses the needs of
linguists, while a section on lexicology will be of particular use to cultural
historians. Volume 4 provides the first systematic and comprehensive
documentation of the spatial interconnections between toponymy and
anthroponomy, using Germany as a paradigmatic subject of analysis.
