The Transnational Education and Learning Society (TELS) is organizing an International Conference on Transnational Education and Learning (ICTEL).

September 29 – October 2, 2014, Milwaukee, Wisconsin (USA)

Theme: The State of Transnational Education and Learning

Purpose: 

Provide scholars, administrators, and other practitioners with an academic forum that fosters the sharing of best practices, the challenges of existing paradigms, and the discussions on new ideas and frameworks that will potentially contribute to change policies, and enrich the literature and practices on transnational education and learning worldwide.

Session Format:

There are three types of session formats for which proposals may be submitted:

1. Concurrent panel and round table sessions: The concurrent panels and roundtable sessions are 75 minutes long and may include a maximum of three presenters, including the chair. The oral presentations are limited to 15 minutes. Concurrent or roundtable presentations are grouped according to topic or theme. At least 20 minutes should be reserved for Q&A and group discussion. Authors are welcome to include visual supports such as paper handouts, computer slides, or digital displays to assist delivery of their oral presentation. 

2. Virtual Sessions: If you are unable to attend the conference in person, you may submit a proposal for a virtual presentation. Acceptance of a proposal for a virtual presenter is based on the same criteria established for in-person presenters.

3. Poster or Exhibits Session: The poster or exhibit session is for presenting preliminary results of work-in-progress or for projects that lend themselves to visual displays and representations. The poster or exhibit session will last 60 minutes. Displays may be posters (maximum 4’ x 6’), digital/computer displays, artwork, or other visual media. Each display should include a brief abstract of the purpose and procedures of the work. Authors are encouraged to share handouts or copies of written materials. The conference will provide space for the poster or exhibit. The presenter must organize the posters, displays, handouts or other appropriate materials.

Required Proposal Information:

The following information is required for all presentation proposals:
1. Session title and abstract
2. Name and contact information of all proposed speakers
3. Conference subtheme category
4. Audio-visual needs 

Presentation proposals must also include a full session description, which should be a detailed description of your proposed session (maximum 500 words). Include a content outline describing the major theme(s), challenges, lessons learned, successes and failures, application possibilities for other institutions, etc. that will be addressed in this session. In addition, please include the goals of the session and the methodologies to be used. Remember to include a minimum of 20 minutes for discussion in the panel discussion format session. If there is more than one presenter, explain what each presenter will discuss. Please be as complete as possible and remember that the content needs to have wide applicability, comparative perspectives and an analysis of ''lessons learned'' useful to education stakeholders across national boundaries. For the Facilitated Roundtable sessions, explain what each presenter will discuss, how the discussion will be moderated, expected outcomes and how outcomes will be collected and distributed.

Paper Submission and Publication:

Presenters are eligible to submit a manuscript to be considered for publication. All accepted manuscripts will be published in an edited book on The State of Transnational Education and Learning. For each manuscript, at least one author is required to register and attend the workshop to present the paper, so as to have it included in the conference program and considered to be peer reviewed for the edited book.

Paper format:

Authors must submit their manuscripts in English. All manuscripts submitted for publication will go through a rigorous, anonymous peer review process. All contributions must be original and should not have been published elsewhere. Papers should not exceed 15 pages, excluding tables and references’ pages. Papers must follow the most current version of the APA manual. The publication decision is based on the reviewers’ reports.

Paper Submission:

All manuscripts must be initially submitted in electronic form (PDF format) using the online submission system.

Instructions for Authors:

Authors must strictly follow these instructions:

1. Submit the initial version of your manuscript in book chapter format through the online submission system by December 15, 2013. All manuscripts must be uploaded in Microsoft word format and in pdf version. Graphics and tables must be camera ready, in jpeg, jiff, or tiff format. Your paper should not exceed 15 pages (excluding tables and references’ pages) and must follow the most current version of the APA manual.
2. Once your manuscript has been reviewed (March 1, 2014), if it has been tentatively accepted, you will need to revise it carefully taking account of the reviewers' comments. The revised manuscript (in Word and PDF format) must be uploaded by May 1, 2014, using the online paper submission system.
3. If or when your manuscript has been unconditionally accepted, you will need to upload: the source file(s) (preferably Microsoft Word) and the PDF file of the final version, as well as the signed copyright form. All files must be uploaded to the system by July 1, 2014.
4. At least one author of each accepted paper must register and pay the fees on or before December 1, 2013. Payment proofs must be received by this date.
