Meeting Description:

The Institute of the Estonian Language (Eesti Keele Instituut), Department of Finno-Ugric Languages and Dialects, is pleased to host a one-day conference entitled “Uralic and Indo-European Language Contacts” on 21 November 2013 in Tallinn, Estonia.

The working language of the conference is English.

Keynote Speakers:

Angela Marcantonio (University of Rome 'La Sapienza', Italy) 
Anna Stafecka (University of Latvia, Latvia) 
Gerson Klumpp (University of Tartu, Estonia)

Call for Papers:

We warmly invite abstracts that explore one or more of the following areas:

- Early and late Indo-European loanwords in the Uralic languages and dialects
- Early and late Uralic loanwords in the Indo-European languages and dialects
- Contact-induced influences on grammatical categories
- Areal-typological aspects of the Indo-European and Uralic languages
- Diverse methodological approaches for studying contact-induced borrowing
- Origin and nature of the historical contacts between the Indo-European and Uralic language families

Submission deadline: 23 September 2013

Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts of no more than 300 words (excluding title and references), in either PDF, Doc, or TXT format should be uploaded via EasyAbs system (http://linguistlist.org/confcustom/uralic2013). Abstracts should clearly present a specific thesis statement and include a description of the topic, approach, and conclusions. Please indicate whether your submission is meant for an oral or poster session. All submissions will be reviewed anonymously.

Abstract template: Times New Roman, Normal, 12pt, 1.5 line spacing, foreign words spelled in Italics. For glossing, follow the Leipzig Glossing Rules.
