Required Language(s): Sign Language

Description:

A post-doctoral position in linguistics/psycholinguistics for a multi-disciplinary project is being offered at the University of Haifa, Israel (in the north of Israel, on the Mediterranean Sea).

The project is called The Grammar of the Body: A Multi-disciplinary Approach to Combinatoriality in Language. Inspired by the relation between bodily articulators and grammatical combinatoriality in sign languages, the research program is comprised of five subprojects investigating combinatoriality in sign language, gesture, and artistic performance. It will be funded by a European Research Council grant to Wendy Sandler, pending final contractual agreement.

This is a position for a linguist or psycholinguist who will be involved in linguistic and psycholinguistic research on sign language and gesture, including analysis of data from village and deaf community sign languages, within the context of the project’s research program. The position also involves coordination of the different subprojects in the research. This is a pure research position and requires no teaching.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in linguistics or psycholinguistics, preferably with an emphasis on sign language; good sign language skills; good organizational and interpersonal skills; and strong English writing ability. (Experience with eye tracking is an advantage but not required.) The position is full-time for 3 years with a possibility of extension. The position can begin in February 2014, but can be postponed until the fall if more feasible.

Applications should be sent by email to the application email address below, including a cover letter and short research statement, CV, 2-3 publications or unplublished research papers, and three letters of reference, emailed directly by the referees.
