Description:

The IU School of Liberal Arts at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is seeking a full time Director of its newly approved Intensive English Language Program, which is scheduled to open Summer 2015.  The Founding Director will be responsible for overseeing the start-up, development, accreditation, and management of the new Intensive English Language Program (IELP) in the Department of English, which will be housed in the heart of the IUPUI campus.  Working closely with the graduate programs in TESOL, the English for Academic Purposes Program for matriculated students, the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication, and the Office of International Affairs, the Founding Director will have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on English language teaching, research and service at IUPUI.  The Director will oversee: development of the IELP curriculum; hiring, training, and evaluation of instructors, including graduate students in the TESOL programs; recruitment, placement, and assessment of students; attaining and maintaining of IEP accreditation from the CEA; and related administrative and financial aspects of the program. Appointment to this non-tenure track academic position begins July 1, 2014, with an earlier start date negotiable.

Required Qualifications:  Masters Degree in TESOL, applied linguistics, or related field; significant program administration experience in an intensive English program; significant experience teaching adult language learners in a higher education setting, preferably in an intensive English program; evidence of strong leadership and interpersonal skills.

Desired Qualifications: Experience with CEA accreditation as well as established expertise in international student recruitment, curriculum development, language assessment, and teacher development is desired.  PhD in TESOL, applied linguistics, or related field with demonstrated scholarly contributions to the field is a plus.
