Description:

The Writing Program at Millsaps College invites applications for the position of Writing Center Coordinator, a full-time, 11 month appointment with reporting responsibility to the Director of Writing and Teaching. This is a professional staff position with non-tenure track faculty status.

The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2014; review of applications will begin December 15, 2013 and will continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities include administering both the undergraduate tutoring program and the functions of the Writing Center, teaching Writing Program courses, and providing ESL support. The Coordinator may also have the option to teach a course in an appropriate academic department of the College.

Activities include but are not limited to the following:
- Overseeing all aspects of the day-to-day operation of the Writing Center programs
- Planning and implementing workshops for students on various issues related to writing in a WAC/WID context
- Planning and implementing individualized tutorials for students with particular needs and in such areas as ESL and/or basic skills
- Planning Writing Center hours and tutoring schedules in consultation with the Director of Writing and Teaching Advertising and promoting Writing Center hours and services
- Participating in instruction of courses for students in need of additional writing instruction and for writing center peer tutors.

The qualified applicant will have earned the Ph.D. in a writing-related field by date of hire; be able to demonstrate significant and relevant experience teaching and/or tutoring writing; have ESL endorsement, ESL certification, or demonstration of significant experience (through coursework, formal training, and teaching/tutoring) in ESL work; and be able to work effectively with students and colleagues. Employment is contingent upon successful background verification.
