Linguistic Field(s): Applied Linguistics

Call Deadline: 15-Sep-2014

Meeting Description:

The 5th International TAL Conference brings into focus a wide gamut of factors that are involved in the ways in which humans interact with other humans, environment and themselves by means of spoken and written language, non-verbal and visual messages. The processes are even more challenging when people interact in foreign languages, which poses specific demands on their cognitive and affective resources.

During the conference we would like to address issues concerning interaction in and outside a foreign language classroom, interaction with the computer and via the computer, interaction within a persons’ mind attending to linguistic and non-linguistic input and output, interaction with a text or interaction of two (or more) languages in one mind. Foreign/second language learning and teaching then involves an interplay of cognitive, social, and affective influences. These intricate relations provide a fertile ground for investigating and reporting findings concerning the development of communicative and intercultural communicative competence, the role of pronunciation and grammar in interaction, bilingualism and multilingualism, contrastive linguistics, language assessment, literacies, discourse analysis, language pedagogy, lexicography, language planning and policies, pragmatics, and translation.
