Meeting Description:

SinFonIJA stands for Syntax Phonology and Language Analysis (e.g. in Serbian: Sintaksa, fonologija i jezička analiza, with slight variation for other South Slavic languages). The idea of having a conference that would travel around the area of Central and South East Europe (ex-Yugoslavia and ex-Austro-Hungarian Empire) has been around for a long while, but it had to wait until 2008 to be implemented. After the initial meeting held in Nova Gorica in 2008, SinFonIJA travelled through Sarajevo (SinFonIJA 2, 2009), Novi Sad (SinFonIJA 3, 2010), Budapest (SinFonIJA 4, 2011) and Vienna (SinFonIJA 5, 2012). SinFonIJA 6, coming back to Serbia this year (after its success in Novi Sad 2010), can safely be announced as a regular annual conference on formal linguistics in this part of the world.

The theme of the SinFonIJA conference is wide and spans all areas of formal linguistics. The primary goal of SinFonIJA is to connect people from Central and South Eastern Europe, but it is open to participants from all over the world. It also aims at promoting the application of different theoretical models to language analysis.

Call for Papers:

The Faculty of Philosophy in Niš (University of Niš) is pleased to invite you to submit abstracts for the sixth annual conference SinFonIJA, which will take place on September 26-28 2013, in Niš, Serbia. 

Abstracts are invited from all areas of theoretical linguistics, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, language acquisition and historical linguistics. Submissions from other areas of linguistics will also be considered, provided that the theoretical significance of the paper is clearly demonstrated in the abstract.

We invite abstracts for a 30 minute oral presentation. Following the conference, we intend to publish the proceedings - naturally, provided a sufficient interest of the participants.

Submission Guidelines:

Abstracts are invited for 30-minute presentations. They must be anonymous and written in English. You can use one word from your abstract’s title as the file name. Abstracts should be one page long with one inch margins and typed in Times New Roman, single-spaced (Title: 14 points, Body: at least 11 points, Page Format: A4) or comparable font. An optional second page is allowed only for diagrams, figures, data and references. Any non-standard fonts should be embedded in the PDF document. Submissions are limited to one individual and one joint abstract per author. 

All abstracts will be reviewed by three independent reviewers for content, relevance, and clarity, before being accepted or declined.
