Abstract:

The book presents a collection of texts in Gagauz language from Bulgaria.
Being a Turkic language, as other minority languages Gagauz was forbidden in
Bulgaria. The assimilatory processes during the years of communism in Bulgaria
forced the Gagauz minority to assimilation and nowadays Gagauz language in
Bulgaria is registered in the book of UNESCO for endangered languages.

The published text in the book were collected in mid 1980s in Northeast part
of Bulgaria and they are published for first time. This has been the only
collection of oral history among the Bulgarian Gagauz minority for last 50
years. The texts document the development of the language during this period,
when the language was alive and used in home environment.

The present collection is targeting students in Turkology, researchers and
anyone interested in Turkic Studies. (written in Gagauz).
