Description:

Reed College invites applications for one or possibly two 1-year visiting
positions in Linguistics at the Assistant Professor level for the 2013-14
academic year, to commence August 2013.

Reed is a selective liberal arts institution with a commitment to teaching
excellence and scholarship. The successful candidate for the first position
will teach one upper-division linguistics course per semester, plus one
section of the College’s year-long freshman humanities course (see
academic.reed.edu/humanities/hum110/ for description). If a second position
becomes available, the successful candidate for the second position will
co-teach the department’s introductory course (Introduction to Linguistic
Analysis) and offer 4 upper-division linguistics courses. Both positions also
involve supervising year-long senior thesis projects on a wide array of topics
within linguistics.

We are interested in outstanding candidates with specializations in all areas
of linguistic analysis. However, we especially invite applications from
candidates who can teach and advise research in two or more of the following
areas: phonetics and phonology, syntax, semantics, psycholinguistics, or the
structure of understudied languages or language families. Candidates with
expertise in experimental methods are particularly encouraged to apply.
Experience in teaching and advising student research projects is also highly
desirable. Humanities teaching experience is not necessary, but candidates who
have taught courses with a substantial writing component will be given
particular consideration. PhD or ABD in Linguistics required for appointment.

The Reed community values cultural and intellectual pluralism as essential to
the excellence of our academic programs.

Through interfolio, please submit a letter of application describing teaching
and scholarly interests, along with a CV and examples of scholarly work, and
three letters of recommendation. In the letter of application, we strongly
encourage you to address how your teaching, scholarship, mentorship, and/or
community service might support the commitment to diversity and inclusion
articulated in the College’s diversity statement (www.reed.edu/diversity/).
For more information and application instructions, please see the application
website address below.

All application materials must be received by March 12, 2013. For further
information, please contact Matt Pearson at the contact email address below.

An Equal Opportunity Employer, Reed values diversity and encourages
applications from underrepresented groups.
