Description:

Position Summary: 
Applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of
Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. The
department is interdisciplinary; current faculty members have degrees in
Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, and other related disciplines such as
Psychology and Physics. The department (http://hesp.umd.edu/) is
CAA-accredited, offers highly competitive programs leading to BA, MA, AuD and
PhD degrees, and is ranked in the top 10% of communication sciences and
disorders programs in the nation. It supports interdisciplinary initiatives
and enjoys campus-wide research ties with the Neuroscience and Cognitive
Science (NACS) Program, the Center for Comparative and Evolutionary Biology of
Hearing (C-CEBH), the new NACS-MD Neuroimaging Center, and is a key
contributor to the largest language science community in North America
(http://languagescience.umd.edu).

The College Park campus is located in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan
area in close proximity to numerous world-renowned medical institutions and
research facilities including NIH, Walter Reed National Military Medical
Center, John Hopkins University, and the University of Maryland School of
Medicine. The University is committed to building a world-class department and
seeks a Chair who can provide the leadership to make this possible.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must hold an earned Ph.D. degree and be eligible for appointment as
a tenured full professor. CCC-A or CCC-SLP certification is strongly
desirable. Preference will be given to candidates who have a distinguished
record of research and teaching; a record of external financial support; the
ability to effectively articulate and further the vision of the department;
and the ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with
university administrators, faculty, staff, students and alumni as well as
individuals affiliated with state and federal agencies, foundations, and other
nongovernmental organizations. Candidates will be considered with expertise in
speech, language, or hearing; applicants in Audiology are particularly
encouraged to apply.
