Description:

The Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University is one of the largest
and most diverse linguistics departments in Australia. In the recent ERA
quality assurance in research exercise, the Department was assessed as 'above
world standard'. It has an extensive PhD program and excellent postgraduate
coursework programs in Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Applied
Linguistics, TESOL and Translation & Interpreting, in addition to the
highly-regarded undergraduate Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences degree.

The Role:
The Department of Linguistics is currently seeking applications from
researchers with an interest in the phonetics/phonology interface to fill the
position of Lecturer in Speech and Hearing Sciences. The successful applicant
will teach units in this and related areas and will contribute to the
scholarship of the Department through a program of personal research.

Reporting to the Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Speech and Hearing
Sciences you will:
-  Contribute to the development of the Department through the generation of
research, teaching and scholarship
-  Contribute to the enhancement of student learning, personal development and
achievement
-  Contribute expertise in phonology and phonetics through undergraduate and
postgraduate teaching including supervision of research students and
curriculum development
-  Provide relief for colleagues on sabbatical in the area of phonology and
phonetics where necessary
-  Participate in Departmental research teams and/or other collaborative
research initiatives
-  Actively seek & secure research funding
-  Assume various administrative tasks, responsibilities and other duties as
requested by the Head of Department including committee work and student
advising

Selection Criteria:
To be considered for this position applicants must respond to the selection
criteria below and upload a response in a separate document during the
application process.

Essential:
-  PhD in the field of phonology and/or phonetics; experience in teaching and
curriculum development in this area
-  A background in experimental and quantitative approaches in the examination
of phonology
-  Evidence of successful competitive grants or excellent prospects for
attracting external funding
-  Evidence of a record of publication and conference presentation
commensurate with a Level B academic appointment
-  History of a successful and original research program
-  Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and
colleagues, using face-to-face, written and electronic communication modes as
appropriate
-  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively

Desirable:
-  Experience in co-ordinating large teaching units
-  Experience with articulatory data collection techniques

Salary Package: 
>From $85,295 - $100,919 p.a. (Level B), plus 17% employer's superannuation and
annual leave loading.
