Description:

Tenure-track position in Chinese Historical Linguistics

The Department of Chinese Studies, National University of Singapore, invites
applications for one position in Chinese Historical Linguistics. Preference
will be given to applicants who are able to teach in one or more of the
following areas: Chinese Historical Phonology (声韵), Chinese Semiology (训诂),
Chinese writing system (文字), Chinese dialects (方言) and have done research on
Singapore Chinese Languages.

The successful and suitably qualified candidate will be appointed as Assistant
Professor/Associate Professor (tenure track) commencing January 2014. The
minimum academic qualification for the appointment is a doctoral degree. This
staff member is expected to teach both undergraduate and graduate courses (in
Mandarin Chinese and English), and supervise graduate students.  Candidates
should have strong research training and potential.  For appointment to
Associate Professor and above, candidates must be able to demonstrate a track
record of significant publications and successful teaching. Compensation at
NUS is competitive and includes eligibility for annual salary increments,
performance bonuses, a housing allowance, and other benefits, as well as
generous research and conference travel support. NUS is a leader in research
and higher education in Asia located in a thriving city-state and vibrant
global city.

Candidates should send, preferably by email attachment to the application

1. A detailed CV
2. Statements of research and teaching interests
3. Sample syllabi and evidence of effective teaching
4. At least two publications representing their best work (five for the
position of Associate Professor and above)
5. Photocopies of academic transcripts and certificates
6. Three letters of reference for the post of Assistant Professor (you may ask
your institution or placement service to forward a dossier that includes
reference letters)
7. Six names of referees with full contact details for the post of Associate
Professor and above.
