Focus: This summer school will focus on the construction of parallel corpora (written and spoken), morphosyntactic and prosodic annotation, text mining and data analysis tools.
Minimum Education Level: Undergraduate


Description:
The University of Minho will host a four-day summer school on corpus
linguistics and natural language processing. The summer school aims at both
undergraduate and graduate students working on any aspect of the study of
corpus-based research: e.g. analyses of spoken and parallel corpora,
lexicography, terminology, processing of corpus databases as well as semantic,
grammatical and statistical research based on corpora. Its goal is to bring
together specialists in the field of corpus linguistics and NLP while
providing an opportunity for junior researchers to present and discuss their
work. In addition to students and researchers, the summer school also targets
non-academic audiences, e.g. translators, interpreters, lexicographers,
terminologists and language engineers, who may benefit from the practical
knowledge and skills that stand to be gained from the different workshop
sessions. The organisation of the event is the responsibility of the Centre
for Humanistic Studies of the Institute of Arts and Human Sciences, University
of Minho. The official languages of the course are Portuguese and English.
