Description:

The Institute for Computational Linguistics at Heidelberg University is seeking to fill the following post at the earliest opportunity:

Full Professor (German W3 level) in Computational Linguistics

The successful candidate should be able to represent the discipline of Computational Linguistics in research and teaching and is expected to contribute to the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs ”Computational Linguistics“ at the faculty of modern languages by teaching in the area of empirical-linguistic and statistics-based natural language processing.

The candidate is expected to cooperate with the linguistic professors at the faculty of modern languages in research and teaching. Furthermore, the candidate will be committed to actively engage in the research activities of the institute as well as in research activities of interdisciplinary centers the institute is involved in, e.g., the European Center for Linguistics (EZS), the Heidelberg Center for Cultural Heritage (HCCH), the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR), and research activities in the excellence initiative of Heidelberg University. 

Prerequisite for the selection by the appointment committee are a distinguished record of internationally renowned research and successful third-party funding. Candidates are also expected to actively participate in the administrative duties in teaching and management of the institute.

Required qualifications include a completed university degree and a PhD. Further requirements for employment are listed in § 47 and § 50 Baden-Wuerttemberg university law. 

The university is striving to increase the proportion of women in teaching and research and therefore expressly encourages qualified female candidates to send in an application. Candidates with a severe disability will be given preference over equally qualified able-bodied applicants.
