Meeting Description:

The conference aims to encourage discussions between linguists, philosophers, and cognitive scientists on the notion of referentiality. The central focus is centered in syntactic-semantic issues related to the nominal system with the aim of understanding the role of nominal modification in the licensing and interpretation of certain syntactic/semantic structures.

Questions to be addressed include but are not limited to:

Nominal modification is understood broadly including plural suffixation, modification by adjectives, prepositional complements and relative clauses. In this conference we want to understand the effects of modification in the licensing and blocking of certain nominal phrase, and the contrasts of acceptability.  

We can summarize the issues as follows:

- the effects of modification in the licensing and blocking of certain nominal phrases; 
- the role of referentiality features of noun phrases; 
- nominal modification and contrasts of acceptability that show up in free choice constructions, with bare noun phrases, in the bare predication, and with the weak and generic definite phrases.

Call for Papers:

We invite submission of abstracts for 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion, or posters. Abstracts must not exceed two pages in letter-size or A4 paper, including examples and references, with 1 inch margins on all sides and 12 point font size. 

Abstracts should have a clear title but should not identify the author(s). They must be submitted anonymously in PDF format. 

Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract per author, or 2 joint abstracts per author.

Abstracts should be in English.

They should be sent to conferenceonreferentiality at gmail.com until August 19, 2013. The message should include the title of the abstract, the author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), and address for contact, including the email address. 

When you submit your abstract, please indicate whether you would like it to be considered for a talk, for a poster or for both. Due to the limited number of slots for talks, the scientific committee might relocate some talk submissions to the poster session.

Submission deadline: August 19, 2013
Notification of acceptance will be emailed by the middle of September.
