Description:

The Department of English Language and Linguistics invites applications for a
Lecturer in Linguistics with a specialization in formal or experimental
pragmatics. A secondary expertise in a related area, such as semantics or
discourse analysis is desirable but not essential. The ideal candidate is
expected to have research experience and publications commensurate with the
stage in their career. He or she will be expected to contribute to the
department’s research, teaching, graduate supervision, and administration.
Preference will be given to those applicants who can contribute to
interdisciplinary research within the department, complimenting existing areas
of expertise.

The appointee’s duties will include convening and teaching modules from stage
1 to stage 3 for the BA in Linguistics, as well as convening and teaching
modules suitable for the MA in Linguistics and the MA in Applied Linguistics
due to start in 2014-2015.

The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent in linguistics and a
research specialisation in pragmatics. Evidence of substantial research
activity, including peer reviewed publications of 3 or 4 quality ready for
submission to REF2014 is essential. The successful candidate will also have
teaching experience at university level, the ability to deliver effective,
high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level in their areas
of expertise and to work enthusiastically in a team and to pursue
collaborative research and teaching projects.
