Description:

The CUI/ University of Geneva seeks a qualified candidate for one specialist
in speech recognition for dialect identification for a period of 6 months
(class 13; 5988.-). Depending on hiring rate (100% to 50%), the contract will
be extended up to 12 months.

In the context of a newly granted Swiss National Science Foundation Agora
project, the CUI will collaborate with the Phonetischen Laboratorium of
Universität Zurich (UZH) on "Swiss VoiceApp - Your voice. Your identity”. The
project will combine speech recognition and processing as well as linguistic
knowledge to provide a smart phone application for Swiss German dialect
recognition and some information on the user’s voice.

The main task of successful candidate will be the development of speech
recognition engine based on speech corpora of dialectal variants. Knowledge of
speech software, namely HTK and Praat, are highly recommended.

Applicant should possess a master’s degree or an engineering diploma in
computational linguistics, or in computer science but with strong knowledge of
speech processing. Given the focus on Swiss German dialects, preference will
be given to speaker of German.

The start date is expected to be during autumn/ winter 2013 and the position will
remain open until filled.
