Germanic Society for Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) 
September 7-8 in Mainz, Germany

The Germanic Society of Forensic Linguistics (GSFL) is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Roundtable in Forensic Linguistics. 

The purpose of the GSFL Roundtable is to provide researchers, teachers, and practitioners working within all sub-areas of forensic linguistics the opportunity to present and discuss their work within an interdisciplinary setting. For this reason the Roundtable will take place at the end of the 2013 International Summer School for Forensic Linguistic Analysis which this year will also be held in Mainz, Germany from September 2-6: http://www.forensiclinguistics.eu/.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts for papers to be presented at the GSFL Roundtable are invited in all of the following areas: 

Forensic Linguistics:

- Speaker identification and voice comparison 
- Authorship identification, verification, and attribution
- Detecting plagiarism
- Computational methods of linguistic profiling
- Corpus analysis of forensic texts (e.g. confessions, courtroom transcripts, police protocols, suicide letters, threatening letters)
- The language of (violent) offenders and/or victims

Language, the Law, and the Legal Process:

- Courtroom interpreting and translating
- Multilingualism and the legal system
- Language minorities and the law
- Legal discourse and legal texts
- Language testing, citizenship, and asylum
- Investigative interviewing and/or interrogative practices
- Legal policies on presenting expert witness testimony and evidence  

Forensic Linguistics and Education:

- Developing FL programs and curricula
- FL instructional materials (textbooks, audiovisual aids, corpora, etc.) 
- Developing ties with universities and professional organizations
- Interdisciplinary challenges and promises
- The future of FL education inside and outside of Europe
 
To encourage continuing interest in the Forensic Linguistics, students are also warmly encouraged to present their work for a special student forum. During these sessions, undergraduate and graduate students will have an opportunity to present their work and receive constructive feedback from peers and scholars in the field.  

All interested authors are requested to submit a 250-word abstract and a completed GSFL information form by June 15, 2013 to Dr. I. M. Laversuch Nick at mavi.yaz at web.de. For papers with more than one author, please complete one information form which includes the details for a single contact person. All submissions must be in either English or German and conform with LSA stylistic regulations. After the deadline, all abstracts will be submitted to a blind review by a team of experts. Authors will receive notification of acceptance by the end of June 2013.
