Description:

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures within the Faculty of
Modern Languages at Heidelberg University seeks to fill the position of W2
Lecturer (Hochschuldozent) in Romance Linguistics starting October 1, 2013.

Lecturers (Hochschuldozenten) are predominantly involved in teaching (12-18
contact hours per week). The primary duties of the appointee will include
teaching Spanish linguistics (two thirds) and French linguistics (one third).
Knowledge of Portuguese linguistics is desired. In addition, the successful
candidate will be expected to maintain a coherent program of research in
Romance linguistics.

In accordance with §51a of the State Higher Education Law, required
qualifications include a completed university degree, a PhD as well as
Habilitation (German postdoctoral qualification), a successfully completed
junior professorship, or exceptional achievements in developing or applying
scientific findings and methods in a professional capacity over a period of at
least five years, at least three of which must have been spent outside of
higher education, as well as demonstrating particular expertise and aptitude
for teaching. Moreover, a candidate must meet the general civil service
requirements in order to be appointed in this official capacity as a civil
servant, in addition to fulfilling the provisions of the Temporary Academic
Employment Law (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) in order to be employed in
higher education in Germany. Heidelberg University especially welcomes
applications from early-career academics with completed postdoctoral
qualifications and a strong interest in forging links between linguistic
research and academic teaching.
