Meeting Description:

The American Dialect Society Midwest regional meeting is held jointly with the Midwest Modern Language Association convention (http://www.luc.edu/mmla/). The American Dialect Society is ‘dedicated to the study of the English language in North America, and of other languages, or dialects of other languages, influencing it or influenced by it.’ More information about the American Dialect Society can be found here: http://www.americandialect.org/.

Call for Papers:

Topic: Representations of Language Variation and Language Attitudes

We welcome papers dealing with varieties of English and other languages spoken in the United States. Presentations may be based in traditional dialectology or in other areas of language variation and change, including sociolinguistics, historical linguistics, anthropological linguistics, folk linguistics, language and gender/sexuality, language attitudes and ideologies, pragmatics and politeness, linguistics in the schools, or critical discourse analysis.

Abstracts should be 250 words (excluding title and references) in MS Word or PDF format. No identifying information (e.g., authors, affiliations) should be in the abstract file. Indicate word count at the end of the abstract.

Please submit abstracts as email attachments to bensonej at uwec.edu. In the body of the email, please include the names and contact information for all authors, affiliation, and abstract title.

Submission deadline: May 15, 2013
Notification of acceptance: June 1, 2013
