Focus: The NY-St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture (NYI-XI) is an interdisciplinary institute focusing on Generative Linguistics, Cognitive Psychology, Philosophy of Language and Culture/Media Studies, held every July in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is open to advanced undergraduate and graduate students from all backgrounds and countries interested in comparative and formal approaches to Linguistics and Cognition as well as a range of topics in Cultural and Media Studies.

Description:
The St. Petersburg Institute of Linguistics, Cognition and Culture (NYI) is an
advanced study program organized every July in St. Petersburg, Russia at St.
Petersburg State University.
 
Participants take seminars with international scholars in a range of fields,
especially those that do not fall neatly into traditional discipline areas.
2013 will be the 11th year of NYI.  Since 2003, over 900 participants from 34
countries and 45 Russian Federation cities have received certificates for
completing the NYI Summer Seminar Program. Participants create a program
design unique to their own interests, choosing 4 seminars from among the
following fields:
- Generative Linguistics
- Comparative Cultural and Media Studies 
- Cognitive Psychology 
- Media, Film, and Politics 
- Literature & Performance Studies

* All students must enroll for the entire 3-week program. Students who
successfully complete all their classes receive a Certificate of Completion
issued jointly by St. Petersburg State University and the State University of
New York.

Registration Instructions:
Passports valid through 2013 required for all non-Russian students. Early
Application Deadline for all students: April 10, 2013.  Final Application
Deadline for students needing visas is May 15, 2013, and the Final application
deadline is May 31, 2013. Note that applications are accepted on a first come,
first served basis.
