Description:

The Department of Linguistics is located within the Faculty of Human Sciences
at Macquarie University. The Faculty is home to a number of world class
research facilities and centres including the ARC Centre of Excellence in
Cognition and its Disorders (CCD), and the Macquarie University Centre for
Language Sciences (CLaS). The research centres are located in the Australian
Hearing Hub; a new state-of-the-art facility that brings together researchers
from Language, Speech, and Cognitive Sciences, and clinical
research/professional training teams from audiology, speech-language pathology
and psychology.

The Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University is one of the largest
and most diverse linguistics departments in Australia. In the recent ERA
quality assurance in research exercise, the Department was assessed as 'above
world standard'. It has an extensive PhD program and excellent postgraduate
coursework programs in Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Applied
Linguistics, TESOL and Translation and Interpreting, in addition to the
highly-regarded undergraduate Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences degree.

The Role:
The Department of Linguistics is seeking an Associate Professor to take a
leading role in the Translation and Interpreting program. This key role has
responsibility for maintaining and building a strong academic program of
research and teaching in Translating and Interpreting, sustaining and building
student enrolments in Translation and Interpreting programs, supervising
postgraduate students and mentoring junior academic staff.

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate academic leadership in
Translation and/or Interpreting research, teaching and management and have a
strong track record in research coupled with the ability to attract external
research funding. They will have a collaborative approach to teaching and
research and involvement with national and international networks.

Selection Criteria:
To be considered for this position applicants must respond to the selection

Essential:
-  A PhD in an area related to translation and/or interpreting
-  An established research track record with publications in high quality
journals and publishing houses
-  Demonstrated ability to attract research funding
-  Experience in supervising research theses
-  Demonstrated record in successful administration and liaison with
university and external organisations
-  Excellent communication skills in English
-  Demonstrated excellence in teaching translation and/or interpretation at
tertiary level

Desirable:
-  Experience in program coordination
-  Demonstrated skills in curriculum design and development

Appointment Type: 
Full-time, continuing (permanent).

Package: 
Associate Professor, Level D base salary AUD$127,578 - $140,327 p.a. plus 17%
employer's superannuation and annual leave loading.
