worldwide. Our mission is to advance quality and equity in education by
providing fair and valid assessments, performing educational research and
influencing policies that promote learning, performance, education and
professional development. We develop, administer and score more than 50
million tests annually in more than 180 countries, at 9,000+ locations
worldwide.

Our Research & Development division has an opening for a researcher in the NLP

scientists in areas related to NLP and speech. Its main focus is on
foundational research as well as on development of new capabilities to
automatically score written and spoken test responses in a wide range of ETS
test programs including TOEFL(R)iBT and GRE(R).

proposing, obtaining funding for, and directing major projects and integrated
programs of research and/or development which may include (1) research
projects supporting the development of technology for assessment and
instruction, (2) development projects that use scientific principles to create
(a) tools to improve the efficiency or quality of the practice of test
development or statistical analysis; (b) innovative item types that lend
themselves to automated evaluation with NLP methods; or (c) the evaluation of
responses to open-ended test items and (3) development projects that use
scientific principles to create new products or product prototypes for
assessment and instruction. Major projects may be cross-disciplinary, may have
substantial budgets, and are likely to involve the coordination of, and
collaboration with many individuals internally and possibly externally to ETS,
may be conducted across several years, and may produce multiple deliverables.

Requires a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Linguistics, or Cognitive Psychology and
eight years of independent research experience providing evidence of
continuing and substantial contributions to projects in the domain of
computational linguistics are necessary. Experience in the development of
end-to-end system is preferred. Proficiency in Java, Python, or Perl
programming languages is desirable.

We offer a competitive salary and excellent compensation package including
medical, dental, vision, 403(b) retirement plan, life and disability
insurance, paid time off and an employee assistance program. Please apply
