Meeting Description:

The conference is being organized by the Language Centre of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia from December 5-7, 2013. There will be a morning Doctoral forum session and hands-on workshops in the afternoon followed by two days of conference presentations.

The conference will focus on the role of instructional technology in foreign language learning fostering innovative learning designs for the teaching of foreign languages. More specifically, it focuses on innovative technologies that can reach even beyond the classroom. The conference will address Second Language Acquisition research to instructional technology applications as well as the opportunity to experience cutting edge research. It is intended for those working in the field of Second Language Acquisition, foreign language pedagogy and Computer-Aided Language Learning as well as practicing and pre-service language teachers at the secondary and tertiary levels.

Call for Papers:

Proposals are invited particularly in the following areas connected to foreign language learning and instructional technology. The conference focuses on the following topics:

- Pedagogy & Instructional Technology
- E-learning Theory, Design, and Practice
- Social Networking Technologies
- Innovative E-learning Technologies
- Online and/or Blended Learning
- Online Communities of Practice
- Assessment & Instructional Technology
- Personal Learning Networks
- Learner Autonomy & CALL
- Mobile Learning
- Networked Learning in Adult Education/Professional Development
- Open Educational Resources
- MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses)

Please note that this is by no means an exhaustive list and other topics will also be considered.

Presentation Formats:

Workshops: Workshops can last between 1.5 to 3 hours and should be hands on.

Individual papers: Paper presentations should consist of a 20 minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Symposia: Symposia should consist of up to four papers with a common theme. These thematic panels should not exceed 90 minutes, preferably with 4/5 participants. Thematic panels should consist of a description of the general topic and the different perspectives from which they will be approached, as well as their relevance to the conference.

Poster presentations: The poster presentations will be held as part of a reception. During the scheduled sessions, authors will be required to stay with their poster and discuss their work one-on-one with other conference participants.

Doctoral forum: The presentations should be no more than 15 minutes in length followed by a short discussion.

Instructions to Authors:

All proposal submissions must be in the English or French language using the Times New Roman font - size 12. A brief biodata statement (75-100 words) of the author/authors should be submitted with the proposal. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. In order for a paper to be included in the conference proceedings and conference program, the first author of each presentation needs to register for the conference by September 15, 2013. Full papers should be formatted using the instructions for authors to be provided after acceptance of the submitted abstract. Accepted full papers need to be submitted online at http://lcweb.ucy.ac.cy/flit/ by September 15, 2013.

Important Deadlines:

Abstract submission (250-350 words): April 19, 2013
Notification of acceptance / referees’ amendments: June 17, 2013
Full paper submission deadline: September 15, 2013
Early bird registration: October 4, 2013
Final registration online: November 22, 2013
