We kindly invite interested academics, teachers and students of English as a foreign language to the following international conference: 

Topics in Applied Linguistics:
Social, Cultural and Affective Influences on Language Processes
7-9 October 2013

The 4th International TAL Conference focuses on a broad spectrum of factors that interact with language processes. The ways people perceive and receive ideas and feelings is shaped by their own emotional makeup, cultural differences, and social norms - to mention the most influential shapers of linguistic activity. The questions we would like to address during the Conference concern the interplay of sociocultural and affective influences on second language acquisition and foreign language learning and teaching, bilingualism and multilingualism, contrastive linguistics, language assessment, literacies, discourse analysis, language pedagogy, lexicography, language planning and policies, pragmatics, forensic linguistics, and translation.

2nd Call for Papers:

The conference will consist of plenary lectures, presentations and a doctoral students’ workshop. 

Presentations: The standard length for presentations will be 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation plus 10 minutes for discussion). 

Doctoral students’ workshop: This is a form of a discussion forum for novice researchers and scholars aimed at providing PhD students the opportunity to receive constructive feedback on their projects from experts in the field. During the workshop each PhD student will have 15 minutes for the presentation indicating the aim and theoretical framework of their work, and the methodological issues on which they wish to receive expert feedback and 15 minutes of feedback from more experienced scholars and other participants of the event. The workshop will be led by Professors Danuta Gabryś-Barker (University of Silesia, Poland) and Liliana Piasecka (Opole University, Poland).

The language of the conference is English. Selected conference papers, after a blind-review procedure, will be published as a collection of articles.

All submissions will be reviewed anonymously by the scientific committee and a notification message will be sent to everyone wishing to present.
