Linguistic Field(s): General Linguistics

Call Deadline: 01-Jul-2013

Meeting Description:

Grammaticalization is a unidirectional process in which lexical items acquire grammatical functions and grammatical items expressing semantic functions acquire more abstract semantic or pragmatic functions. In this process formal changes are secondary to functional changes in the sense that changed forms reflect contentive change. Although this process is gradual, we believe that focal points can be identified and defined in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions.

Call for Papers:

Abstracts (approx. 500 words including references) for papers on all aspects of TAM grammaticalization are welcome. We particularly invite papers that take a cross-linguistic perspective.

Programme Committee:

Kees Hengeveld (University of Amsterdam)
Heiko Narrog (Tohoku University Sendai, Japan)
Hella Olbertz (University of Amsterdam)
