Call for Paper

Special Issue of Language and Linguistics
Lexico-semantic and Construction-based Studies on Malay
Volume 16.3 April, 2015

Guest Editors:
Siaw-Fong Chung, Huei-Ling Lai

Description
While many typological studies have included Malay for the comparison to other
languages, an investigation of Malay itself from corpus-based,
construction-based, and lexico-semantic perspectives still requires specific
attention. Recent developments in Malay research have shown a combination of
both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Particularly, the use of a large
amount of corpus data has now been applied to Austronesian languages with a
written form, and Standard Malay has become one of the target languages of the
large corpus collection. This call for papers hence aims for a special issue
on Malay with the intention to publish papers which inspect Malay from
different angles, comprising both theoretical and application studies.

This special issue will show a collection of papers on Malay from different
perspectives. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

a) Lexical semantic and corpus-based studies of words or morphemes
b) Cognitive linguistic and constructional studies of words, morphemes, or
phrases
c) Studies of Malay dialects in comparison to Standard forms
d) Comparison of Malay to other languages in cross-linguistic studies
e) Grammaticalization (lexical words, morphemes, prepositions, etc.)
f) Creating and building Malay lexical resources

The term Malay itself is broad, as it also covers regional dialects and
different types of Standard Malay spoken in different countries. Studies of
Malay dialects in comparison to Standard forms will also be of interest to
this volume.
