Call Deadline: 31-Jan-2014

Meeting Description:

Institute of Western and Southern Slavic Studies, University of Warsaw, and the Slavic Foundation are pleased to announce the 5th international conference in linguistics: Grammar and Corpora.

The conference will be held on 25-27 June 2014 in Warsaw, in the facilities of the University of Warsaw. The conference fee is Euro 100/PLN 400 (PhD students are entitled to a reduced fee of Euro 70/PLN 300) and covers organization and publication-related costs as well as refreshments available during coffee breaks.

The conference fee should be covered by 31 March 2014. The details to payment finalization will be provided in December 2013. For the participants, accommodation options are provided in university-affiliated hotels (Hera and Sokrates).

The Warsaw conference is the fifth meeting in the series of events bringing together linguists conducting research with the help of corpora databases. The previous meetings took place in Prague (2005, 2012), Liblice (2007), and Mannheim (2009).

Following our invitation, speeches during plenary sessions will be delivered by:

- Neil Bermel, Russian and Slavonic Studies, University of Sheffield
- Agnieszka Leńko-Szymańska, Institute of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw
- Karolína Skwarska, Slovanský ústav, Akademie věd České republiky, Praha
- Amir Zeldes, Institut für deutsche Sprache und Linguistik, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

Call for Papers:

We address our invitation to academia members and teachers working in the field of theory and practice of employing corpora in research and academic work. This year’s conference is conceived as a meeting space enabling cooperation between experienced researchers and those entering the sphere of corpus-linguistic research.

We have chosen to address the following topics covering a vast array of possible research areas:

1. Research in linguistics involving corpora
2. Methodology of corpus-linguistic research
3. The use of corpora in teaching foreign languages

Due to the conference’s thematic scope, speeches/papers will be preferred which concern the use of corpora in research of grammar.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:

We accept contributions in Polish and in English. Abstracts should be written in English to be examined and reviewed by an international jury of experts. Feedback confirming the acceptance of the participation form and/or paper will be given not later than 28 February 2014.

Those who wish to participate should send application forms via email to: grammarandcorpora at gmail.com by 31 January 2014.
