Meeting Description:

AESLA is pleased to announce the 32nd conference to be held at the Universidad de Pablo Olavide, Seville from 3-5 April 2014.

The theme title this year is Language Industries and Social Change. The focus this year is on the connection between applied linguistics and the productive sectors responsible for economic and human development, in this way looking at the connection between language and industry, multi-linguistic economy, language as an asset and a resource, language and inequality, social stratification and linguistic capital, among other subjects related to the theme of the conference.

The conference will host the following keynote speakers:

Jan Bloomaert (Tilburg University) 
Bill VanPatten (Michigan State University) 
Francisco Moreno Fernández (Instituto Cervantes, Universidad de Alcalá) 
Francois Grin (Observatoire ELF Economics Language and Education, University of Geneva) 

Call for Papers:

'Language Industries and Social Change' is the central theme of the Conference. Submissions of research paper proposals, related to the conference theme, but also dealing with other topics, are especially encouraged for the Discourse Analysis Panel.

The conference will cover the following areas:

- Language acquisition and learning 
- Language teaching and curricular design 
- Language for specific purposes 
- Language psychology, child language acquisition and psycholinguistics 
- Sociolinguistics 
- Pragmatics 
- Discourse analysis 
- Corpus linguistics, computational linguistics and linguistic engineering

- Translation and Interpretation 
- Interdisciplinary panels on technologies in linguistic research
