Meeting Description:

Following the success of the Northern Englishes Workshop series, this conference lays the focus on any aspect of English in the linguistic south of the United Kingdom. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to, dialectology, sociolinguistics, dialect in literature, discourse analysis, historical linguistics, language contact with English, and any other area of interest to English in the south.

We are pleased to announce two plenary speakers:

Jenny Cheshire (Queen Mary, University of London)
Laura Wright (University of Cambridge)

2nd Call for Papers:

SEW invites submissions for papers on any aspect of English in the linguistic south of the United Kingdom including dialectology, sociolinguistics, dialect in literature, discourse analysis, historical linguistics, language contact with English, and any other area of interest to English in the south. 

Papers will be 20 minutes each with a 5 minute question-and-answer session.

Please submit an abstract of no more than 300 words to: southernenglishes at gmail.com

Deadline for abstracts: 30 November 2013.
