We invite you to take part in the Poetry and Literary Translation Contest "Alter Ego", which is dedicated to the Taras Shevchenko's 200th anniversary and will be held by the Department of Germanic Philology of the Sumy State University on the 13th-14th of March 2014 in Ukraine.
Works are accepted in five nominations:
- poetry in Ukrainian;
- poetry in Russian;
- poetry in English;
- literary translations from English;
- literary translations from Ukrainian into English.
The following source texts are given for the literary translations:
Text 1: Robert Browning "Home-Thoughts. From Abroad" (from English).
Text 2: The poem about Taras Shevchenko written by Liudmyla Yatsura "Відродися, Тарасе".
Requirements for the contest works:
- grammatical correctness in accordance with the valid orthography;
- absence of sense mistakes;
- conventional syntactic constructions;
Separately, for the literary translation the following requirements are added:
- reproduction of author's style;
- correspondence between the text of translation and the target text.
Works are accepted till the 15th of February 2014.
Works are submitted in the MS Word format, arranged in accordance with the following requirements:
- standards - type size 12 pt, line spacing - 1.5, Times New Roman type;
- volume of work should not exceed one page A4.
Translations are accepted via email at the following email address: konkurs at alter-ego.pp.ua.
It is obligatory to point out your name, surname, patronymic, full name of the educational establishment, contact phone number in the email. Optionally, the pseudonym and the lnternet link to the personal page on the social network may be pointed out.
Authors of the best contest works will be awarded with the Honorary Diploma and prizes at the official victory ceremony, that will be held on the 14th of March 2014 at Sumy State University.
