Applications are invited for 2 Postdoctoral Research Positions in the Child Language Lab at Macquarie University (Sydney). The Lab is located in the Australian Hearing Hub with state-of the art EEG, MEG, infant speech perception, eye-tracking, and language production research facilities. The group has extensive collaborative links with Audiology, Speech Pathology, Centre of Excellence for Cognition and its Disorders (CCD), and the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), providing a dynamic, collaborative research environment.

Project:
These positions are part of a new 5-year Australian Research Council (ARC) Laureate Fellowship award for examining 'Neural and behavioural evidence for children's learning of grammatical morphology'. The goal is to better understand the nature of children’s phonological and morphological representations, and how these develop between the ages of 1-7. The project brings together researchers from a wide range of disciplines with the common purpose of addressing issues related to speech perception and production in typically developing monolingual and bilingual children, as well as children with hearing loss and specific language impairment. 

Postdoctoral Research Fellow #1 – EEG/Language Processing
The successful applicant will lead the imaging aspects of the project (ERP/EEG/MEG), including designing, running, writing up and presenting results of experiments, supervising graduate and undergraduate student projects, and helping to recruit participants as needed. Involvement in some organizational and management aspects of the lab is also expected. Previous experience in designing and conducting ERP/EEG experiments exploring aspects of language processing including N400 and P600 effects is essential.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow #2 – Speech Perception/Language Processing 
The successful applicant will lead aspects of the project pertaining to some aspect of speech perception and/or language processing in children, including designing, running, writing up and presenting results of experiments, supervising graduate and undergraduate student projects, and helping to recruit participants as needed. Involvement in some organizational and management aspects of the lab is also expected. Previous experience in designing and conducting language processing experiments, including language comprehension/perception experiments, eye-tracking studies, and/or language production is essential.

Selection Criteria:

Essential:
-  PhD in linguistics, psychology, cognitive science or related discipline awarded or near completion
-  Good knowledge of acoustic phonetics, phonology, prosody and psycholinguistics
-  Good knowledge of experimental design and statistical analysis
-  Interest in child language acquisition and/or children with language disorders
-  Excellent written and verbal communications skills
-  First-authored journal publications

Desirable:
-  Programming skills
-  Experience writing grant proposals
-  Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students
-  Experience working with young children
