Description:

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to fill two faculty positions with individuals committed to developing an outstanding program of research and teaching. These positions are in the tenure system and can be at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. Qualifications of preferred candidates include a Ph.D. in Communicative Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline (e.g. Linguistics, Psychology), and distinguished scholarship with emphasis on basic or clinical research in speech-language disorders. Clinical certification (CCC-SLP) is highly desirable but not required. Candidates must demonstrate success (or the promise of success) in obtaining external support for their research and the potential for multidisciplinary collaboration. All qualified candidates and specialties will be considered, particularly those with experience in Motor Speech Disorders and Child Language including (but not limited to) Autism, Acquired Language Disorders, and Fluency.

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders located in East Lansing, MI, is growing rapidly and is investing heavily in its research and graduate programs, with two new faculty hired last year in addition to these two new faculty lines. It offers doctoral degrees, a nationally-accredited Master’s program in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) and undergraduate preparatory coursework for students seeking careers in Audiology and SLP. Current faculty research is funded by several external agencies including the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The department has outstanding facilities with dedicated laboratories within the department, as well as access to collaborations with other research facilities across the large MSU campus. This includes two medical programs (College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine), a College of Veterinary Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Engineering and College of Education, amongst others. The Department is part of MSU’s world-renowned College of Communication Arts and Sciences and offers several opportunities for highly productive research and teaching collaborations. The college combines a research-intensive faculty with a strong professional mission to prepare students for rewarding careers and emerging technologies.

To apply for these positions, please refer to posting #8347 and complete an electronic submission at the Michigan State University Employment Opportunities website at the application URL below. Applicants should submit electronically a cover letter summarizing qualifications for the position, a vita, and the names and email addresses of three references.

Please direct inquiries about these positions to Dr. Eric Hunter, Search Committee Chair, at the contact information below. The search committee will begin its evaluation of applicants Oct. 15, 2013, and will continue until an exceptional candidate is selected.
