Description:

The University of Vienna invites applications for a PhD position in the field of English Historical Linguistics.

Successful applicants for this PhD position will write a dissertation in the field of English Historical Linguistics in the context of a research group that approaches language change in terms of generalized evolutionary theory, takes cognitive and sociolinguistic factors into account, and employs corpus based quantitative research methods. They will participate in research projects, teaching and administration. 

Applicants are expected to deal competently with early historical varieties of English, particularly in the areas of phonology and/or morphology. They should command or be ready to acquire quantitative methods of historical linguistic analysis and model building, and be interested in transdisciplinary academic communication. Their command of English needs to be excellent.
