Call for Papers

The journal Language Research was first published in 1965 by the Language Education Institute (formerly, the Language Research Institute) of Seoul National University in Seoul, Korea. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious linguistic journals published in Korea. It has continually published important papers in diverse areas of theoretical and applied linguistics as well as language teaching.

The editorial policies for the journal effective are as follows: 

(1) The journal publishes three issues per year. Submitted papers to the first and third issues may be in any language. All papers submitted to the second issue will be in English.

(2) Submitted manuscripts should have a focus on linguistics and language teaching theory and practice. In addition to all subfields within general/theoretical linguistics, papers addressing topics in psycholinguistics,sociolinguistics, historical/comparative linguistics, and computational linguistics are welcome. Though we see topics in Korean linguistics as the main area of concentration for the journal, papers need not be restricted to issues related to Korean.

(3) Electronic submissions are preferred where possible. The text file should be written in MS-word and the length of the manuscript should not exceed 15-25 pages of Language Research.

(4) Each manuscript should include an abstract of about 100 words and approximately 5 Keywords. The abstracts of the papers in this journal are regularly printed in Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts.

(5) All illustrative material should be numbered consecutively. Tables, charts and complex diagrams should be provided in a camera-ready form.

(6) All the Korea data should be romanized according to the Yale system.

(7) Representation of references in the text should conform to the format in the following examples (Korean names should be represented with last names together with the initials of first names, e.g., H-h Lee for Hyeon-hie Lee, and J HS Yoon for James Hye Suk Yoon):

As can be seen in (1), English stress is sensitive to syllable weight. With the generalization in (1) as a basis, I review works by Halle and Vergnaud (1987), Halle (1998), and K-S Kim (1999).

He stated, 'The 'placebo effect' disappeared ... when behavior was studied in this manner' (Smith 1982: 276).

(8) Bibliographical references at the end of each paper should conform to the format in the following examples:

(9) On the last page of the manuscript, the author should provide the author's name, affiliation, address and email address.
