Full Title: Evidential Systems in Tibetan Languages

Date: 27-May-2014 - 27-May-2014
Location: Yangon, Myanmar
Contact Person: Nathan W. Hill
Meeting Email: nh36 at soas.ac.uk

Linguistic Field(s): Anthropological Linguistics; Language Documentation; Morphology; Semantics; Typology

Language Family(ies): Tibetan

Call Deadline: 15-Jan-2014

Meeting Description:

The evidential systems of Tibetan languages, in particular Lhasa dialect, have
played an important role in the typological discussion of evidential systems
generally. However, this typological literature is often disconnected from the
results of detailed documentation of the relevant phenomena in the
dialectological literature; that much of this literature is written in German
and Japanese has served as one obstacle. This panel/workshop solicits
descriptive presentations on Tibetan evidential systems across time and space
as well as presentations that reexamine what Tibetan can offer for the
typological study of evidential systems. It is intended to publish proceedings
as a book on Tibetan evidential systems.

Call for Papers:

Please write Nathan W. Hill (nh36 at soas.ac.uk) with an expression of interest as soon as possible, and submit an abstract by January 15 2014. Note that the date of the session is currently only tentative, and may occur elsewhere during the SEALS24 programme.
