Description:

Developing software that enables computers to process and understand natural language is a challenging, yet enthralling endeavour. It becomes even more demanding when scaling these features to multiple languages. It is these challenges that drive the Natural Language Technologies (NLT) team, part of the Microsoft Office organisation in Ireland. The NLT team manages the development of natural language software (spellchecking and grammar checking) that ship in many applications including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows and Internet Explorer. 

We are looking for a talented computational linguist to help develop and evaluate the next generation of Natural Language technology software. This position offers a great opportunity to join a team at the forefront of developing Natural Language technology for Microsoft products.

Roles & Responsibilities:
-  Help execute comprehensive linguistic Development and Quality Assurance processes
-  Have the ability to investigate linguistic issues and work with native speakers to resolve bugs 
-  Establish strong collaborative relationships with partner teams, both inside and outside Microsoft 
-  Work closely with teams in Project Management, Development, and Quality Assurance
-  Engage with the engineering community to define and propagate best practices 
-  Define innovative end-to-end workflows and drive changes where necessary
-  Effectively document key processes and requirements
-  Maintain/develop software tools for the Development/Testing of Natural language features

Skills & Qualifications:
-  Bachelors, Masters or higher degree in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics or Computer Science with Linguistics or NLP content 
-  Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of linguistics, morphology, NLP 
-  Appreciate morphological/grammatical phenomena across multiple languages
-  Team player with exceptional communication skills
-  Experience using an object-oriented programming language (C++ or C#) and/or scripting languages (Python, Java, or Perl) 
-  Demonstrated experience successfully combining linguistic and coding skills to achieve results
-  Possess technical problem solving skills and an enthusiasm to solve difficult linguistic problems
-  An understanding of software development concepts
-  A Passion for product quality, customer satisfaction, and new technologies
-  Ability to manage various projects simultaneously
-  Experience with NLP using statistical methods 
-  Familiarity with machine learning methods 

Desired skills, but not essential:
-  Proficiency in a language other than English
-  Experience managing partner companies working in multiple languages
-  Initiating, promoting and implementing engineering best practices
