We invite abstracts for a one-day workshop on Children’s Acquisition and Processing of Head-Final Languages’, which will be held on November 5, 2014 at Harvard University.

Roughly half of the world’s languages have SOV order. In these languages, the verb generally appears clause-finally, case marking is common, and word order is flexible. These features present unique challenges for theories of language acquisition and online language processing. The aim of this workshop is to foster communication among researchers who study children’s acquisition and processing of head-final languages and structures.

Call for Papers:

We welcome abstracts on the following topics, among others:

- Use of morphosyntactic markings during comprehension in children
- Cues to thematic interpretation in head-final languages
- Interpretation of long-distance dependencies in head-final structures in children
- Acquisition of complex syntactic structures in children
- Online processing in children
- Ambiguity resolution during comprehension in children
- Differences between consistently and inconsistently head-final languages
- Bilingual acquisition/processing of two languages with distinct head-directionalities
- Prosodic cues to head-directionality and branching in acquisition

Abstracts:

- Single-spaced, Times New Roman 12-pt font, 1-inch margins
- One-page .PDF file
- No identifying information about the author(s)
- Two anonymous, blind reviewers will consider abstracts for spoken presentations.
